A whirlpool of iridescent beetles piled shell on shell, with a fringe of pale leaves curling around the edges.

Early on, fredyrim shared an old oil painting of a metallic beetle, just to explain what iridescence means. anza--c asked if the plan was to paint bugs. Fredyrim laughed it off as only a definition, though it could be nice. An hour later bombadilus sketched a vortex of beetles packed tight together. Fredyrim asked to paint the big one in the middle. By morning, the passing idea had filled the whole canvas.
